5 Renovation Tips: Beginner's Guide

September 1, 2022

Whether you’re looking to update your current home or are hoping to renovate a new house, here are five renovation tips that will help you transform your living space.

1. Refresh Your Floors

One of the simplest changes you can make which will have a huge impact is to refresh your flooring. If you can't afford to replace it entirely, painting the floorboards can really help freshen them up and give your flooring some extra life. If you want to make the space lighter, consider painting your floorboards white. This small change can make a dramatic difference to the ambience and feel of an entire room with very minimal effort and expense.

2. Hide Dishwashers And Washing Machines

For many, washing machines and dishwashers are an eyesore in the kitchen, so if you're renovating your kitchen space, you might want to consider how you can blend them into the room. A popular way to do this is to hide them behind cupboard doors or even style them out with a curtain covering. If you have a bigger space to play with, such as a pantry, you could even use a sliding door, which will make it much easier to access your washing machine, dryer and laundry products while keeping them out of sight.

3. Add An En-suite

If you have the money and space, why not splash out on an ensuite? Having your own bathroom connected to your bedroom will change your life considerably, especially if you have kids and you currently share one bathroom. Crafting a beautiful, elegant ensuite is a great way to add a sense of class and luxury to your home too. It also gives you the chance to design your bathroom from scratch, allowing you to make sure it's functional and meets your needs exactly.

4. Think Carefully About Where To Install Your Radiators

During any renovation, one of the most important things to think about is the positioning of your radiators. Traditionally, they should be placed in the coldest part of the room, for example, under the window. However, due to modern designs and improvements in energy efficiency, they can be placed almost anywhere now as long as air flow isn't restricted. Make sure they're not behind large pieces of furniture like sofas or bookshelves.

5. Upgrade To A Tankless Hot Water System

If you’re renovating, now is the perfect time to switch to a tankless hot water system. Not only are they more energy efficient, but tankless systems have a much higher life expectancy than storage water heaters, offering more than 20 years of use. In addition to this, their parts are replaceable, which can extend their lives even further.
